Self Quarantine and Keto Diet - It's a good time for CHANGE!

So... it's a pretty good time to start a diet.

Due to the pandemic situation unfolding worldwide, more and more are being told something very important – STAY HOME!

While this is a lot to take in, I got to thinking about it the other day – find the positives right? Aside from catching up on Netflix, getting projects around the house done, and going stir-crazy, what else can we do?

It's time. I'd call this close enough to Hell freezing over, that a diet falls right in.

One of the hardest parts about dieting, are maintaining that diet when we are out of our element of control (home). Those donuts you pass at work? Having to get lunch on the fly? Such 2019 problems that we don't have to worry about. This diet just got 50% easier!

Find your macros! Google Keto Calculator, or you can use this one. Don't pay for a calculator! https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

Now that you know how much Fat, Protein, and Carbs you can have a day – start thinking about how these can work with sources you will eat. Protein is easy, Fat and sides without carbs are the tricky part!Meal prep. Take a day of that newfound freedom, and prepare a week of:

Protein

Fats (Coconut oil / Cream Cheese based are my fav fat bombs)

Sides (You can do SO much with cauliflower!)

The first week of low carb is the hardest, and now you have the advantage (most likely) of living it out at home. There's no bread at the store, so that part just got easier! There also is an abundance of produce for some reason, so take advantage of that!

The best thing I can tell anyone starting this, during your tempting moments – and if I could stress one thing to set your mindset:

Fat is a prison. Good decisions are a sure path out of that prison. In the world of Keto, a 15 minute slip-up equates to bad behavior, and extends your prison sentence 3 days.

There's a couple of ways to look at the situation we are in, and the decisions we make will determine how we look back on it. Some will look back and say “I went cabin fever crazy” while some will say “I lost 20 lbs” - Some will say both :)

Take a before picture! You may not like the idea of pictures at your current weight, but it's an amazing thing to look back on after you've lost 50-100lbs.

Also, share your story – I've grown to really enjoy the journey others are going on, and watching them progress towards their goals. Always happy to talk through the struggles and share insight.

Stay safe, stay home, and sign up for notifications on new posts. :)
